Start Running for Beginners: What to Eat Before You Run

Produced by StartRunningDotCom

www.startrunning.com Tellman here! As you’re likely aware by now, this week I’m offering tips on running for beginners. Today, I’ll be talking about what to eat before you run (and this awesome ball of fire I just bought!) My advice is to train your stomach by gradually increasing how much you eat before you run. It’s pretty obvious that calorie intake is directly related to your energy level and how much you can run. But runners often complain about stitches in their stomach if they eat too much before they run, or if they eat something tough to digest. This is why we must gradually train our stomachs. So those first few days out there, just have that banana (acts like lubricant for your joints) or that power bar and some water. Then continually eat more, as much as you’re comfortable with. Personally, when I was in college, I’d have like 3 big frozen pizzas and a few liters of water and go out for a 10-12 mile run. Maybe I’m just weird, but maybe I trained myself that way (maybe both). The more you eat before you run, the less you’ll have to refuel (if at all) and the farther you’ll go. Just remember to train yourself so you don’t puke everywhere. I have a question; ok i was never really a RUNNER, but i could jog for 15mins no problem during my high school football days, i could chase down just about anyone and out run them on a straight away, but now i can’t seem to go longer than 3mins before im winded.but im very strong still, i have a husky builld, im 5’9 around 245-255lbs. Any suggestions as to how i can get back into the swing of things?

  3. My guess is that you just need to build up to where you were a year ago. It takes time, but you’ll improve day by day.
