Hubby met him years back during the Cleveland Marathon and he went to shook his hand. Hubby said “I’ll never forget what he said to me that day”. I asked what it was, he said: “Hot day today!”

As I recall he ended up with the nickanme of Boston Billy. One of the greats, no doubt
i agree Bill Rodgers is a fine man on and off the road races. I met him twice in the NYC marathon in 98 and 99 and he remembered the day i met him earlier back in my country (philippines) when he visited in 1982 to grace our inaugural manila marathon. I approached him in the hotel lobby where he was billeted and asked for his autograph. I have been running since 1980 and up to now I am fit for a marathon.
I am running the Charlottesville marathon (my 3rd) on Saturday and I am listening to Mr Rodgers for a tad of inspiration. What a legend he is!
Bill Rodgers is one of my sporting heroes from my boyhood. I finally met him at a race expo in Chicago a few years ago. A nice man.
