Canadian Forces – Basic Officer Trainig Course

Basic Officer Training During 9 weeks, the first part of the course verifies that each candidate has the leadership potential, motivation and ability to continue with leadership training. Each student will be assessed on demonstrated personal traits, socialization, general leadership skills that are common to both military and civilian situations. They will also be taught basic military knowledge and skills common to all members of the CF. Task procedure will be taught as the framework for the evaluation of leadership potential. During 6 weeks, the second part of the course provides candidates who displayed the necessary leadership potential with the leadership knowledge and skills required to perform as a junior officer during a first tour. The focus will be on providing practical training and practice with an emphasis on military leadership. Basic Training is generally conducted at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. CFLRS provides initial indoctrination to the rudiments of military knowledge and leadership together with the fundamental ethics and values that characterize the profession of arms.
