stop running for a holidays rest?

Question from Dave

Well I am a serious runner and run about 10-15km every day. What i wanted to know is that is it that bigger of a deal if i stop running for three weeks? I know for a fact that you loose 10% of your fitness for everyday you have off, but I sort of feel like I need a break from running.
So yeah, if anyone can give me some advice on the subject, it would be appreciated.
lol, my bad. 5% each week off, not 10% each day. Got it.

you lose 5% per week, not 10% per day

I would take 2 weeks off..
    not three

Well its necessary to take some time off every once in a while to prevent injury and to let your body recover from the strain its going through. Although, having said this, three weeks sounds like a long time. A better alternative would be to ease up on the distance and go slower. you might also want to consider taking a certain day off every week (i always take sundays off while tapering). Doing these things will not only keep you in shape over the holidays but will also make sure that you are well rested and limber when you start your normal training again. Hope it helps!

Only take 2 weeks off. It will benefit you because it is a good balance of healing mental burnout without putting you too far back in training. If you choose to take three off, you need to have some rigorous cross training in order to feel refreshed (though a little weak), and not dead when you start again.
