Is it okay to workout two days before a “fitness test”?

i’m 15 and i do rowing. i have a rowing machine test on monday. so today is saturday and i need to be in my best shape on monday.

i feel like i need to work on my cardio so would it be okay if i do a lot of running today? then i’ll rest sunday. my friend says i should rest today but i disagree. will running today improve my fitness?
