How much you can increase your stamina in several weeks is individual but IS very possible for most everyone. I suggest running very slow (jog) and rather than keeping track of distance, keep track of time. Start with the 15 minutes you are capable of and increase by 3-5 minutes every day. When you get to 40 - 45 minutes of non stop SLOW minutes of running - continue jogging daily for that time frame but add terrain (hills, grassy parks, trails).
Most aerobic sports will increase stamina - especially soccer (football) but running is my "game" so there you have it... GOOD LUCK!
