Question from StrawDog…got her account un-suspended!
For years I have been running for general fitness, and can run 2-3 miles in under half an hour (when i’m in a good mood) without too much difficulty (although i usually go slower)-the problem is for the past few years every time I begin to build up my fitness i get sick (usually bad colds and flus) and am unable to run again for a while, then i have begin again and am back to square one. I have no debilitating illnesses’ and my blood work shows i am not mineral/vitamin deficient or anemic, so why do I keep getting sick? please help me!

Everyone gets a cold or other illness a few times a year. It doesn’t sound like there is anything strange happening to you. It can definately be frustrating to have to take some time off when you are sick, but just jump back into it. That is all you can do. If you are truly worried about your health, ask for your doctor’s opinion. Also, you can do some little things to stay healthy – get enough sleep, wash your hands often and take a multivitamin. Good luck!
sorry for not answering your Question i get the same thing its really annoying i cant even run without getting it
You might still not have an adequate diet to aid in your recovery following running.
Protein consumption can be important for rebuilding after your runs, and impacts the immune system as well.
That would be a relatively slow pace for running, so it’s also possible you’re actually overexerting yourself for your level of preparedness, and wearing you body down.
I’d try an extended period of walking training while your body adapts, and see if that helps before you progress to exerting yourself more in running.
